For a long time, neighbouring regions like Byron Bay and the Sunshine Coast have basked in the glory of winning awards and attracting attention for being top tourist destinations – but now, the Tweed Shire is in the spotlight.
Lauded publication Lonely Planet recently released their coveted Best in Travel 2027 list and our humble Tweed Shire landed a spot in the top 50 standout holiday destinations.
We’ve long known that this area is brimming with beautiful beaches, picturesque hinterland and top tier hospitality venues, but to be recognised by the world class tourism purveyors at Lonely Planet – feels like something to be proud of.

The Best in Travel 2027 guide is released annually and is widely considered a bible of sorts for keen travel seekers looking to be pointed in the right direction.
Among the other standout destinations featured in the guide are places like Bocas Del Toro, Panama; Danang, Vietnam; Alaska, USA and French Polynesia, South Pacific.
Not a bad lineup of travel destinations if you ask us.
Lonely Planet’s destination editor for Oceania, Jessica Lockhard told The Guardian, the Tweed landed a spot on the list thanks to its humble offering that draws people off the beaten track.
“What we’re really looking for is places that feel less crowded, that are offering a deeper and more meaningful experience, or are really inviting travellers to slow down,” she said.
Lockhard also told Delicious Magazine there were plenty of standout tourist spots in the Tweed that bolstered its position on the list.
“We’ve been watching the Tweed rightfully grow in popularity with domestic tourists,” she said. “It’s becoming known as both a foodie and outdoors destination, especially with the opening of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail and Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk.
She went on to say that the Tweed region is fast becoming the worst kept secret with more travellers adding the area to their travel hit list.
“Now, we think it’s time that we let international tourists in on the secret: The space between the Gold Coast and Byron Bay isn’t one you want to speed through. It’s a destination in its own right – and one that’s worth lingering in,” she said.
With such a spotlight being placed on the area this further cements our holiday letting offering at Salt Property Management. With more travellers heading here we continue to see an increase in both short and long-term letting bookings on our standout properties.
The Tweed is having its moment in the sun and we’re here to keep singing the region’s praises.
